In celebration of Earth Day 2003,
Starbucks
employees showed up
in force to plant, weed and remove litter. Husbands, wives and children  joined in
as well to restore the slopes above the
newly day-lighted Schmitz Creek.

size Starbucks banner.

Radio host and Master Gardener Cisco Morrison, center, featured FOSP Co-leader Jefferson Saunders and volunteer Kathleen Anderson on his show which was broadcast from the Alki Market on August 30, 2003.
 


 
Douglas Jackson,  landscape architect and president of Friends of Seattle's Olmsted Parks, leads a group along the trails of Schmitz Park. The guided tour is part of the continuing centennial celebration of the Olmsted Brothers park and boulevard plan for Seattle.

John Dixon measures the circumference of a western redcedar (Thuja plicata) as a possible Seattle Heritage Tree . Dixon is owner of Native Son Gardening, chairman of the Washington Native Plant Society Stewardship Program and a longtime advocate of northwest native trees.

University of Washington
students from Beta Alpha Psi, a national scholastic and professional accounting organization brought their talents and energy to Schmitz Park recently and removed non-native plants. Beta Alpha Psi participates in many service activities throughout the year.

The Home Depot volunteers joined FOSP and Seattle Parks Natural Area Crew Lead Jason L. Goetz to remove non-natives, replant and improve the Hanford Street End trail.
